Re: When was the last time you RAN AWAY from something?
Best mates New years eve house party 1999.

Just as it was emptying out at around 4am 3 massive lumps and a girl barged in. They all had a bottle of spirits they were drinking.
Even a mate who is a big lump himself said "I'm going as I'm the first one they'll start on" I begged him not to go but he did.
So a few if us are left with with 4 pussed up nutters, the girl started getting mouthy to my mates girlfriend who was pregnant, I asked them to leave and they all turned in me saying "you think you're special" I said "no I just want you to go the party's over"
Then one swung his bottle at me and they moved towards me, I legged it out if the house thinking if I'm going to get a kicking I'd rather be out in the open where I risk getting less injuries.
I probably would have kept running out of his front garden but as I ran out a police van pulled up as someone else had called them to the house thank fuck, never been so pleased to see the police in my life!

Wasn't over though as the 3 blokes then had a battle with about 5 coppers on my mates front lawn, I swear we thought the police would lose and we were next as the blokes were fucking mental, big and hard, the police would baton them but they just kept getting back up and howling at the police. Took ages for them to be forced into the van and apparently they were fighting the coppers all the way to the staion. One copper said it was lucky we called them.
Unbelievably they must have let one go as about 2 hours later when we were sitting around drinking tea he came back and tried to kick down the front door I kid you not, we had to shout through the door that we'd called the coppers again and he scarpered.

Must admit I thought I was scared at times that night as I'm sure if they had got hold of me I would have been seriously injured / killed.

From a dog in our street when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Running from the law when me and some mates broke into a factory.

The Fires of '98 we called it afterwards, so that will tell you how long ago.

A Native friend's mom asked us to do a controlled burn on her land on the Pidgeon Lake Reserve at a time of year we should not have.

Long story short, wind came up , it became far from controlled and I was about to get trapped between a smaller blaze that sprung up behind and the main one. Ran for what I thought was my life, no idea if it would have been.

Fire department had to come because it threatened Ma- me-o Beach (non-Reserve land.) Luckily/shamefully they could not do anything to us because it was Native land to start and my friend was Native.

Re: When was the last time you RAN AWAY from something?
An old mate of mine chased me half way round the isle of dogs way back when i was in my 2p's. He was a big lump and would have broken me in half had he caught me. Short version of the story is my then dog (rip dylan) swallowed a big lump of hash that i had just bought off a mate. Luckily he came to no obvious harm but he did sleep a lot. Anyway,i waited for it to pass through his system then gave it a good wash. My mate Paul just happened to enquire if i had any gear and i was only to glad to sell the shit tainted hash on to him. I managed to keep it quiet for about 9 months til one of my other mates let it slip out in the pub one night. Big Paul was less than amused and after some vile abuse the chase began. The story is a lot funnier when told properly and i'd just like to say i no longer smoke dope or feed it to unsuspectin beasts.

As a kid we used to live in Loose, near Maidstone in Kent.

Summer of 1986 (when I was 8) was a village fete or something and it was really busy with I think the whole park full of stalls etc.

Anyway the little girl who lived next door took me there and we had a look round. I can even now very clearly remember walking back and a couple of blokes following us.

It was probably only 1/3 mile at the most but they were walking too close and it was a quiet lane with no-one else around. Every time we looked over our shoulders they were just acting innocent etc but were still giving off a vibe like they were trying to grab us.

In the end when we were on the home straight and could see our houses she just said “run” and we fucking legged it. They chased us but I was a skinny little bastard at that age and naturally pretty quick.

The girl must’ve been 2 or 3 years older so would’ve been a bit more aware of the danger than I was although I could sense that something was a bit off with the blokes.

She said not to tell our parents as I guess they wouldn’t let her out on her own again - my parents never mentioned it and the police weren’t called but it’s one of the few things from my childhood I can recall crystal clearly.

What years were those nonces active who kidnapped and killed some kids in the south east from funfairs etc? Wouldn’t be surprised if it was linked to that.

Had a fight with the local pikeys who must have been no older than 12 when I was 15.

They of course started on us, the little runts squirted lemon in one of my mates eyes.

Anyway once we gave them a few slaps and told them to fuck off, they said were going to get their older brothers...

Needless to say we legged it all the way home.

Friend/colleague of mine got out of his car in rural Scotland once carrying a bag of doughnuts. A pig (boar?) roaming nearby, took a massive interest in the doughnuts and started chasing him. Not surprisingly he ran like crazy, abandoning the doughnuts along the way.

So gutted that I didn't witness this in person.

Last year. A rat.

I am old enough to know better, but rats just freak me out. Proper phobia. Mice are fine. They're cute. Had a boa round my neck before, no problems. A rat? I'll run.

Should never have read the James Herbert book as a child, in hindsight.

Only time I remember running away was funnily enough on an Augsut bank holiday (2002, possibly) after running out of snout and rizla.

A pal was convinced he could deactivate the alarm system of a local newsagent, which went off as soon as he removed the first screw.

Died a couple of years later of a heroin overdose on christmas day.

Pretty sure he wasn't the full ticket, but I liked him.

Gank. It went on for a few years, then he stopped and it was never mentioned again. He was a proper wrong'un, a very violent and dangerous man. Rumours abounded about his perversions. Probably a psychopath. He died in his late 40s. He had been in a traffic accident when riding a motorbike and was really mangled up. He was on strong prescription painkillers after that and he took an accidental overdose and it killed him.

Once as a kid, I went onto a vacant block with a friend and started a grass fire.. When we realised we couldn't put it out, we fled..

Only time I remember running in fear was one night when I was about 8, I closed my wardrobe door, which was followed by 2 loud thumps then the door swung back open. I shit a brick and ran to my grandmother who was babysitting me. Turned out to be my school bag which was hanging on the back of the door.

Re: When was the last time you RAN AWAY from something?
Nurse, that's a terrible tale. Did anything ever come of it in later years?

Leonard - I did get involved in a police chase when I was 16, but it was in a car not on foot. A 0.9 litre Fiat Panda managed to lose the Old Bill thanks to my intricate knowledge of the streets of Chatham. Shit me up but I came out on top and managed to park up and disappear through a network of alleyways and collect the car the next morning before my parents noticed the car they had bought me for when I was 17 was missing. Apart from that, I don't think I've ever actually run away from anything.

Probably should have. Certainly would have saved me from getting CS gassed by some pikeys in Excalibur car park then being kicked to fuck.
